I own a Mac Pro and for me as for the most of you, the only option is the iSight Camera, which unfortunately doesn't get produced any more...I bought one from ebay for lots of money...
Logitech now has the Quickcam Vision Pro for 99$. In Europe you can find the camera for 60-80€. My new camera came on Monday. I immediately installed it (connects through USB) and I started iChat. What I saw was a great quality difference to the iSight. The picture quality is great, auto focus works very well and especially under bad lightning conditions the picture remains quite bright. Photo Booth works great and so does Skype.
The frame rate is at least as good as the iSight.

Overall I am really happy and I will sell my iSight. Mac Pro users if you need a great Web Camera, buy the Logitech Quickcam Vision Pro for Mac!

where did you buy for $99. The cheapest I have seen is for around 115 + shipping in the US

I bought it in Germany so I can't tell you a US site that sells it.
I now see that the US Logitech Website sells it for 129$...so I stay corrected

i hope this is not too much to ask, but can we (I) please get a screenshot to see what the quality is like, say in..photobooth?
I know quality will be affected by lighting etc but just any old shot and maybe mention the light setup (e.g. a lamp :) ) you had when you took the shot?

This is the second time i've seen it recommended here and thus my interest has grown :p

Thank you!

Ok, I uploaded two pics. The first one is without any lights apart from the Apple Cinema Display and my TV. The second one is with lights on (80W)

Thanks for the heads up

Just the thread I'm looking for.

For the past few days I've been checking out various webcams and so far nothing really hit the spot! Tilll now. Looking at your examples, I'm fairly impressed but i wonder is the unit available here in Japan - cause I ain't seen it, at least not in the stores i've been too.

Thank for you very much for the screenshots, quality looks great will likely be getting that camera! especially if the new ACDs do not have isights, thanks again!

I read that USB camera's won't do the background special effects.

This is simply not true, and whoever told you this needs their head checked! The iSight cameras built into the current MB's MBP's and iMacs, are connected via internal USB, and they work just fine (although it would be nice if they had better light sensitivity).

Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac (Black)

I have Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics), 400 MHz, Memory 1.38GB SDRAM, OS 10.4.11
Machine Model: PowerMac3,1,
Is the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro compatible?

Thanks for pointing this out! Can you do a mini review (maybe add it to the original post)? I am sure many of us would find it interesting.

Is this connected to the MP or through a USB hub? If you have a hub laying around can you test it and let us know if it still works?

Cheers!
