AT&T.. 1 year discount after buying 5s isn't until 9/21.

In the past, I know AT&T has given people upgrading the discount even if they were a few days early.

I upgraded to the 5S last 9/21, and therefore my discount won't kick in until 9/21 this year. Does anyone know if AT&T plans on relaxing that again this year?

If you got a 5S, then your discount won't kick in until September of next year. My mom has a 5 and she's already upgrade eligible.

You get like half of a discount now. If you go to Apple.com and do "Check Upgrade Eligibility" it will show you. I get like $200 off after 9/21/2014.

Just called ATT and couldn't get them to budge. I will probably buy the 6 plus outright and not extend my contract. No flexibility. Maybe it will change before Friday.

The 5s is $349. It's the 5c that's $250. Just noticed, the 5s 32GB is just $50 more than the 16GB version. That's a nice change.

I was just trying to remember back to last year if they moved the date up. I'm pretty sure I called AT&T and asked them to budge last year but they didn't, but I definitly remember ordering on the pre-order date last year too.

Can anyone else confirm if AT&T moved the date up for early upgraders last year?

I was actually pleasently surprised that they offered early upgrading pricing agian. I thought they would force us into the Next plan BS. Thank god.

Now to decide.... 6 or 6 Plus.....

I'm not familiar with how the plans work, but for those of us that upgrades every single year, doesn't the cost kinda balance out? So either take the $200 discount every year, or buy one for full price, then get the full discount the next year. Both scenarios we end up saving $400 in 2 years?

Not exactly. If you use early upgrade, you save $400 in 2 years. If you do one normal upgrade and one buy outright, you save $450 in 2 years. You also need to factor in the upgrade fee in case you can't get it waived.

I'm in the same boat, don't become partial upgrade eligible until September 21st because I bought the 5S at release. One question though, for pre-order, won't we need to be eligible as of the 12th, not the 19th?

Hope this changes ASAP. Although, I'm scared this is a strong arm to get people to switch to NEXT. I remember ATT being lax on this in past years, but the rep I spoke with today was pretty adamant that no eligibility changes could be given (who knows if she knew what she was talking about though, honestly).

Even worse, I'm scared that if I can't purchase before the 21st, it'll be on back order and I won't be able to get my 5S sold off to Gazelle by their October 10th price lock deadline.

I'm in the same boat too. I spoke with THREE reps who said the date couldn't be moved. I just said forget it. I'll still check on Friday to see if they changed it, and if not, I'll just have to wait. You may have to contact Gazelle to see if they can extend or may be give you another offer. Is there any talk of supply constraint for the iPhone 6?

I checked my upgrage eligibility, and as I expected, if I buy an iPhone 6 Plus on 9/12, I will have to pay full price. However, there is an asterisk above the full price "Buy Today" column as well as over the "Buy Sept 21, 2014" column showing that a new 2 year contract is required.

"**Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. In CA and RI, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of iPhone."

If I'm reading this correctly, I'll have to renew my contract if I pay full price. I hope this is an error.

Since resale value is variable, no, I didn't take that into account. Numbers are based purely on MSRP and 2-year contract pricing assuming you just bought the 5s last year on subsidy and are not eligible for full subsidy right now.

I was told by an AT&T store manager tonight that they could not change my eligibility from 9/21 to 9/19 or 9/12. He suggested trying with customer service, but we know they're not doing it either. Looks like their sticking on it this year to push people to NEXT.

I bought a 16GB iPhone 5 the morning that it was released in 2012. After a few weeks I realized that I was going to run out of storage so I returned it and got the 32GB version. That reset my upgrade date so now I have to wait until October 18th. I didn't think this as supposed to happen when I found out about it a few months ago. Spoke to AT&T and Apple. Nothing that they can do. Oh well, I guess I won't be doing the release day thing anymore.

I'm curious, are you on the old plans or Mobile Share? Also, do you have unlimited data? I think this might be a tactic to get people to switch plans. I'm on Mobile Share and 2 or our lines are already eligible for full subsidy despite a contract end date of 9/21/14.
