Someone told me that if you bought a 3G within the last 3 months you can upgrade to the 3G S for a $30 activation fee.

Any truth to this?

I have no reason to upgrade b/c I don't think the 3G S is that much better but for $30 I might as well, I just upgraded to the 3G in April b/c my original one stopped responding to touch.

i believe its only within the last 30 days. my cousin and uncle bought a 3G about 2 weeks ago and the apple store said that they can get the 3G S by exchanging the 3G for it and pay a 10% restocking fee and pay the difference.

It's not the last 3 months...

Because if that were the case I could have done it. And would have. I have no such option.

Yep... AT&T will let you do it within 30 days, not 3 months.
And the re-stocking fee can be waived if you're real nice. :D
I got my wife a replacement 3G when her 2G broke about 3 weeks ago.
AT&T did a straight swap to a 16GB 3Gs... no questions asked.
They were so nice to deal with, I upgraded my 2G to a 3Gs as well.
