LTE has been turned on for Philly and Wilmington, DE. Even more excited to have the iPhone 5 this Friday. :D

On the heels of recent expansion earlier this month, AT&T today announced that the company has brought their shiny new LTE network to four new markets. According to the AT&T website, the carrier has launched LTE services in Albany and Rochester, New York, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware. According to AT&T's handy-dandy LTE infographic (pdf), the carrier has now launched LTE services in part or all of 65 markets, with plans to reach 100 before the end of the year, and all current HSPA+ markets upgraded to LTE by the end of 2013. The launch of the iPhone 5, as excpected, has drawn greater scrutiny to AT&T's LTE coverage or lack thereof, especially when compared to Verizon's (371 markets).

This is from DSL Reports.

If only ATT created a teleportation device to remove people from Philly, because I hate visiting...but I guess when my iPhone 5 comes and I visit my family, I will have LTE

so

If they activated it in Philly will it be accessible to the suburbs outside Philly? If not then I don't even care.

Center City. The best thing about Philly is cheesesteaks, the worst thing is being in Philly and seeing Phillies fans lol...

Cheese steaks arent actually very good in Philly. Geno's and Pat's are pretty average. I actually prefer Jim's.

I can get a better cheesesteak up here in the Lehigh Valley to be honest.

I hate to say this, especially as a native, but I've had way better cheesesteaks outside of Philly... That being said there are some incredible places to eat and visit if you're ever blowing through our corner of PA. I also love how they are doing so many concerts in Penn's Landing these past few years.

I don't think the LTE is going to extend very far in to the burbs but we'll see. Honestly most of philly does not need LTE, as the majority of it is uh...... lost. Center City, Old City, S Philly that's all cool. But let' be honest, do they need LTE past 30th and Market? Well yeah I guess the guys mugging you for your new phone might enjoy the LTE.

Not only did AT&T's LTE network go live in Philly, it is now live in the Philly suburbs as well and it blows Verizon's LTE network away in the same area. Here is a speed test that I ran on Sunday when I noticed LTE on my AT&T iPad 3 for the 1st time. Also a comparison speed test that I did using one of Verizon's LTE android devices.

lmao so true

Have they updated their maps? I am still not seeing LTE where I am.

Yes, they have. I know it is hard to tell from this LTE coverage map of AT&T's, however, you can see Philly and the surrounding suburb's is covered.

I work at the University of PA and yes it's needed past 30th and Market :)

I'm excited to get my iPhone 5.

As a resident of southeast Michigan, I completely forget (and slightly didn't know about) AT&T's 4G (not LTE) service. I will be getting around 4x faster download speeds! At least the new technology won't be completely going unused.

Haha you know what I meant though. UPenn is cool, I had to bring a relative there for heart surgery a few years back. I hate hospitals but they were all cool and took good care of him.

I'm in the burbs a lot, like Collegeville, KOP, even Pottstown. I hope LTE gets out this far. I didn't order the iPhone 5 but I may get one unlocked later on or get another LTE enabled phone.

Which suburbs, I live in the King of Prussia area and work around 309.

I think KOP is covered - was talking to someone who is currently working for the contracting company that's installing the towers and he told me there is an LTE site on top of the new VF Casino!

Suburbs?

Does anyone know how far LTE will reach? If it doesn't reach the suburbs when to me expect to see it in that area?
