AT&T - Apple iPhone 5S price difference

I went to my local AT&T store today to purchase an iPhone 5S. I wanted a 64GB Gold but only Space Gray was available so I went for that just to get my hands on one.

I paid $740 pre-tax for a 64GB iPhone 5S at my AT&T store but it's listed for $649 on Apple.com.

Is this correct? Does AT&T up the price $91? What price is everyone else buying the 64GB iPhone 5S for?

Where on Apple.com do you see iPhone 5S 64GB for $649?

You sure you got that right? The 64 GB iPhone 5S is $849.
 
They do offer early upgrades to some customers, and $649 would be their early upgrade price for the 64GB iPhone 5s.
 
That is weird. I wonder if it's just a coincidence that $740 is what they charge for a 64GB iPhone 5s if you are going through AT&T Next? ($740/20 months = $37/month; exactly matching the monthly Next surcharge)

Maybe they somehow didn't see that you were early upgrade eligible and charged you the wrong full price (Next vs. non-Next) for the phone??
