I was a little worried about activating based on all of the horror stories, but I was able to add lines through our business account for my and my wife's new LTE Apple Watches. Here were the steps. This is a crazy long process, but trust me it works. Read carefully and don't miss the details.

  1. First, this is a business plan. Will differ for personal plans
  2. Have the box the watch came in handy - you will need numbers off of it
  3. Call 866-288-7629
  4. Get someone on the line to add new service
  5. Tell them you're activating an Apple Watch
  6. Give them the IMEI and long number starting with EID when asked
  7. Let them go through their activation steps
  8. Once they say they're done, keep them on the line
  9. Turn watch on/off
  10. When back on go to the watch app on the phone and look under cellular. You're looking for it to say "AT&T not active" or something to that effect
  11. Once you see that, go on a computer and go to this address: https://m.att.com/my/#/welcome?orig...ughAction.myworld?actionType=ManageNumberSync
  12. Enter the number of the phone you are pairing with and only the phone number and IMEI, not the zip. This is the PHONE's IMEI and phone number, not the watch's
  13. This is setting up a new login for numbersync, so dont think this has anything to do with any existing AT&T logins you may have
  14. Once it's all set up go back to the watch app on the phone under cellular and hit "set up cellular" or something to that effect
  15. It will prompt you for the numbersync username and password you set up above
  16. That should do it. Good luck!

I just wanted to say thanks for this. I called ATT to setup my Apple Watch S3 on my Premier account since it failed on the phone and was told that it couldn’t be activated on a business account. He said it needed to be a prepaid account. Even when I finally got through to someone that would help me, I wouldn’t have gotten it done without the instructions above...

Admins should make this a sticky, at least until ATT gets their act together...

I could not access my cellular plan until I set up a new access ID per your instructions above. It worked! I have spent numerous hours in the ATT store, on phone with ATT and Apple...all I had to do was that????
THANKS!!

Thanks for posting this! Still having my corp rep look into this. I have a question for you, though, does the manager of the business plan need to make the call to the number on step 3 or can anyone? Would be great if anyone can do it as I am not authorized on the business account.

You can't do it by yourself on a Company managed account. You have what is know as a CRU if you company pays the bill directly.

Only the Business Plan manger can make the changes and even create the ID for the NumberSync. They also have to pay the $10 Unlimited Wearable plan bill since it is on the Company Billing Account.

The original post was from a confused customer, that had a Company discount tied to their plan. They called the Premier number for assistance. They had what is called an IRU plan, that means the individual pays the actual bill.

Note: the Watch and the paired iPhone must be on the same Billing Account and it must be a post-paid account type.

This was my path to eventual success (and can replace steps 1-8 with not having to interact with a human):

If you have access to Premier, once logged in go to Shop and then go through the steps to "bring you own device to AT&T." Once you have entered the IMEI and the EID you can finish the steps in Premier to add the $10/mo line and it will activate. After this, restart the watch, and wait 5 minutes for the activation to complete and go to your phone (already paired to the watch) and on the Watch app, go to the Mobile Data entry and then enable the mobile service on the watch. You will need to create a new account on the MyATT login screen for the Numbersync management (this is not done in Premier - and follow the advise of the poster above about using your phone's number to create the account, not the watch's phone number). Once that is done and you have activated the Numbersync, a few minutes later you will get an SMS indicating that Numbersync is active.
