at&t CAN tell if you are tethering??!

Ok so I have done a minimal amount of tethering using netshare and assumed that at&t wouldn't know. I mean I don't have massive amounts of data usage. I've used 279MB since I got it which was over a month ago.

But when I look at my pageonce app which shows my at&t account it has a section for internet/MEdia pay-per-use which tells me that I have used 0.03MB and have a limit of 0MB.

Does this mean bad things are happening? I don't see anything on there anymore about having unlimited data either. But then of course it also isn't currently showing my text messages, which it usually does...

Any ideas?

I see no way for AT&T to tell you are tethering...to them, it just looks like the iPhone is sending and receiving data...which it is. Tethering does go against your contract, but as long as you don't say "Hey guys, I'm breaking my contract and using my iPhone to tether" you should be ok Just don't exceed 5GB/month.

Ya, it should be no problem. Did you check your online ATT status right after you used the tethering? because a note under your usage states that it may take 2-5 days for your usage to show up.

I see no way for AT&T to tell you are tethering.

If they do some heavy packet sniffing, they could figure it out.

It should say Internet/MEdia Net UNLIMITED instead of Internet/MEdia pay-per-use. Here's what mine says:

Internet/MEdia Net
UNLIMITED
Used 125.86MB of Unlimited

You do have a standard AT&T iPhone plan with unlimited data, right?

whatever, they did offer up unlimited data... I doubt they'd be able to tell
