wtf... I already have an account, and have been paying for a year diligently, never being late, are they really going to do another credit check? :(

Yes. They are covering their butts to make sure that you are just as good at paying things off now as you were since the last time they credit checked you. I'm sure you can refute it if you'd like.

Well, I have a shared plan with my GF, the account is in her name, but I'll be upgrading my phone using my debit card..

Will they check mine, or hers? She won't be with me, but I'm an authorized user on the account...

Hmm. Thats a good question. My instinct, and logic say that her credit is what is important to them, seeing as she is the primary, however, if you can convince them that you are paying the bills, they may check your credit. I think they will check whoever the name on the bill is. Call a representative.

I believe they will run the account holders credit... But now that I think about it.. They don't run credit for upgrades, since you already have an account!

If this is the case, they are not going to run your credit. Who informed you of this?

I was reading the bottom part of the Apple page where it shows that I'm qualified. Although it may have been talking about new customers...

That makes more sense that Apple would post that. But I can assure you that AT&T will not run your credit unless you are establishing a new account, change of responsibility, or resuming a cancelled for non-pay account.

Ok. That puts my mind at ease a bit, thanks :)

Yeah, I don’t believe AT&T has pulled my credit other than the initial time a few years ago when I started service with them and I check my Credit Report regularly.

you're all wrong

if AT&T operates like verizon (which for the most part it does), a credit check is REQUIRED for all upgrades and new lines. Its just part of the approval process.

I have never seen an upgrade go unapproved though (used to work for verizon) unless the bill had a past due balance or something.

Also, some stores will require the account holder to be present when resigning a two year agreement, regardless if youre an authorized user or not.

They have not checked my credit for anything aside from my initial signing up.

When I got the 3G as an upgrade last year, they did NOT do a credit check. It has also been my experience that no one does another credit check once you're a customer.

That would be silly.

i worked for verizon, they do a credit check EVERY time. or at least the system says its doing one and the app is sent to the credit department. so believe what you want.

im pretty sure i got a credit check when i upgraded to 3G last year...

do what you want. but a credit check isn't really a big deal unless you're doing a ton of them a year.

Also, do you think my GF will need to be there even though I'm an authorized user on the account?

=\

Nope i upgraded last year without my mom being there our family plan was in her name being that we had had it since before i was 18 all they check is that you are an authorized user they didn't even ask for an idea but i do believe that asked for my mom's last 4 of her ssn and that was about it

Beautiful. Thanks bro.

I cannot think of a reason to do a credit check for an upgrade. Just look at the account performance. There's no reason to ding someone's credit because they want a better phone.

Anyway, when I went for my mortgage a couple months ago, there was the original AT&T inquiry from when I got the first gen iPhone, but not a second when I upgraded. If they wanted to pull my score again I might not even do it because that's a huge deal in this market.

I agree. All my years with Verizon, they never did a credit check when I got a new phone and signed another 2-year contract. As long as your payment record is good with AT&T, they'd have no reason to check your credit.
