Wanted to get my step-dad a new iPhone for Christmas but he is not eligible until September 2014. Called them and asked if an early upgrade was possible. Operator did some checking, then came back and said she couldn't find a way. Suggested a cross-upgrade, but I didn't want to reset the clock on my line with Apple's update frequency.
Asked if if she could run it by a supervisor or something, and she said she could try. Was on hold for maybe 5 minutes, then she came back and said they could do it!
$199 and his present is on the way. Was polite and friendly in my requests - and a bit of playful banter with the rep - and she went out of her way to make it happen.
Will gladly pay this upgrade fee.
I'm sure this will generate a "cool story bro" response, but thought I would give a shout-out to Ma Bell, and also suggest that being polite and fun on the phone works a whole lot better than arguing and threatening to quit.
As always YMMV. For the stat-trackers: Customer for 7 years. $240 a month bill. AT&T Fan account for Military family.
