I have 2 AT&T lines, using AT&T Premier because of my work discount. I have iPhone 6's right now, did the AT&T Next plan last year, but I completely paid off my devices 3 months ago. When 6s pre-orders started, the apple.com eligibility checker said I wasn't eligible for the AT&T Next plan. I called AT&T to check, and got no answer after dealing with them for a week on why I wasn't eligible on the apple.com website.

Of course, they said to order through AT&T's store (which said I was eligible) but I want to order through Apple instead.

Fast forward to this week, I'm so frustrated dealing with them that I decided to just go to the Apple Store and do the iPhone Upgrade Program. Now, when I run the eligibility checker on apple.com, it says:

Because your AT&T Wireless service is currently being billed with your other AT&T services (such as U-verse), you will have to contact AT&T at 800-331-0500 to purchase an iPhone using AT&T Next. Or you can choose a different purchase option.

The odd thing is, I'm not even selecting the AT&T Next option (I selected contract free, full price). I called Apple to ask about this message, and they contacted AT&T on the phone with me, and AT&T had no idea about that error. I do have my AT&T bill combined with my DirecTV service.

I really just want to travel the 80 miles to my nearest Apple Store and do the upgrade program (when I can get a reservation). The Apple phone representative assured me that I should be able to upgrade in the Apple Store using the upgrade program since I'm not buying through AT&T. I'm worried about driving the distance and getting shot down because of these weird eligibility checker problems.

Has anybody else had these upgrade issues and can help me out?
