So here's my situation: my whole family is on an AT&T FamilyTalk plan. Both of my parents are currently eligible for an upgrade, because they used my brother's and mine. So they have an iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, and my brother and I have non-smartphones.
I want to upgrade to the iPhone 4 but I called AT&T and they can't switch the eligibility. They said I could upgrade one of my parent's lines and then started mentioning something about parking account info and swapping SIM cards, but it gets confusing because the iPhone 4 has a micro SIM while the older iPhones do not.
If I buy an iPhone in the Apple Store with an upgrade they have to activate it there. So my question, simply put, is how can I use one of my family's free upgrades on cheap-o phone to an iPhone 4 without screwing up the service on either of my parents' iPhones? Thanks!
