AT&T full-price iphone 6: How long did take you to unlock?

I pre-ordered a full-price, no-contract 6+ from the AT&T site and am still waiting for shipment. I was wondering if anybody who also ordered and has received a full-price, no-contract 6/6+ can share if they've run into trouble trying to unlock it, and how long it took.

i suggest you to cancel your AT&T order and re-order it from Verizon. for the same price yo will get an UNLOCKED device straight of the box. no worries about unlocking request crap with AT&T. follow this thread :)

If i order now from Verizon I'm not gonna have a phone in my hands until November. :p

Apple doesn't sell full-priced off-contract Verizon iPhone 6's right now. Maybe in a few months they will. You'd have to be lucky to get what you want in stock now at a store anyway.

Anyone have any experience to share regarding my original post?
 
I paid subsidized price and I still got my phone unlocked today. Filed the request at 5:30 AM, received unlock at 3:40.
 
Bought my AT&T 64GB Gold iPhone 6 Plus without a contract/full price on launch day and unlocked it immediately through iTunes restore iPhone option.

How did you get AT&T to unlock a subsidized price phone? If you bought it on contract, don't you have to wait until the contract is fulfilled?

I'm assuming the phone came with an AT&T sim card. Did you first pull out the sim card before turning on the phone and restoring?

The system glitched up and let me unlock my subsidized phone.

I leave the AT&T SIM installed to activate the phone after unlocking.
 
I ordered my AT&T 6+ full price from Apple and my phone is locked. I submitted an unlock request and was denied since I still have a year left on my contract from my 5S I got last year. I don't see why it should matter since the 6+ wasn't subsidized.
 
I just put in another carrier's SIM (international), and it downloaded the carrier settings and showed the international no (didn't have to do backup/restore)... If you've a non-ATT SIM, just pop it in and it should work as long as you paid full price. Cheers!

So you don't have to restore in iTunes and see the "Device Unlocked" dialog come up? Why did the other poster have to do that? Sorry, just trying to figure if there are some conflicting answers.

I can confirm what the other poster said. I purchased a full price ATT iPhone 6 Plus from my nearby Apple Store, the Genius insisted that the device will still be LOCKED and would only work on ATT. I Got home and popped in my T Mobile nano sim while in the process of setting up my phone and it activated just fine. Two days later my TMo services all work including LTE.
 
Yes ATT phones sold at the apple store are locked to ATT.

However if you pay full price, then that information is submitted to AT&T and they tell Apple that the phone is eligible for unlock and the phone's IMEI is added to the list of unlockable iphones on apple's servers.

Thus when you activate your iPhone with any sim card, the activation server sees the phone can be unlocked and will unlock it. AT&T is really good about this.

Tmobile, even if you pay full price from a tmobile store, you have to wait 40 days before they unlock it...jerks.

Tmobile iPhones from The Apple store are all factory unlocked. Even if any genius or specialist tells you it's not, it is (and has been confirmed 500000x on this forum)

I'm guessing since I bought my phone from Apple online instead of the store this doesn't apply? AT&T won't unlock my device due to still being in a contract that I signed when I got my 5S a year ago.

idk, try filling in the request form online; maybe even with a different number on your account that recently had an upgrade. I've been lucky and had a few phones unlock this way.

I did on Friday but I received an email yesterday denying my request due to my contract not being up. It doesn't make sense to me since the 6 Plus I am requesting was bought at full price.

Do you have a balance on the account? Worst case call customer support.

If you paid for the phone full price try restoring it and see if it'll budge. It should, seeing how the contract is under your 5S and not the 6.

Although there have been reports of the SIM unlock not working for full price phones if they were tied to an account. The only 100% surefire way to get it unlocked is to buy a device full price "device only" without activation or association with any account.

Just did a chat with tech support and after telling him my previous request was denied he informed me that the device has to be active for more than 24 hours hours. So he had me submit the request again and also email proof of purchase to avoid the system automatically rejecting the request. Hopefully it works this time.

My Phone has been on since Friday so maybe that is why mine went through fine.

You're talking about AT&T phones bought at the apple store right? My original post is asking about AT&T phones pre-ordered from the AT&T site.

Well it got denied again so I reached out to customer care on Twitter and I provide all the info to the person and he tells me that I have to wait 60 days before I can have a no-commitment phone unlocked and refers me to AT&T's terms and conditions on their site for unlocking which only mentions the account has to be active for 60 days not the phone. He then asked to call me to verify my account. So what he did was submit a ticket and gave me a case number and forwarded my invoice from apple over to the people who deal with this as well and it should have a resolution within 48 hours if not sooner. So we shall see what happens.

Looks like if you want something taken care of don't bother calling or web chatting, social media seems to be where you need to go.
 
in Canada most carriers are 90 days and a fee of about $50 I know Canada is not America but that might give you a reference
