I find it interesting how it says "AT&T recommends using....."

If you're not using 3G, EDGE, or Wi-Fi, how else are you going to connect to those features? No recommendation about it: you NEED one of those three to connect.
 
Yeah, that statement referring to 3G has been on the site for quite some time. I remember seeing that line when I was preparing to buy the iPhone and doing some research, and this was about early February.
