I find it interesting how it says "AT&T recommends using....."

If you're not using 3G, EDGE, or Wi-Fi, how else are you going to connect to those features? No recommendation about it: you NEED one of those three to connect.

Yeah, that statement referring to 3G has been on the site for quite some time. I remember seeing that line when I was preparing to buy the iPhone and doing some research, and this was about early February.

This has always been there. It's simply saying that the phone will work in both the EDGE only coverage map sections, AND where the map says 3G... because the 3G areas also support EDGE.
