Carrier AT&T iPhone 7 / 7 Plus Personal Hotspot?

I noticed that Personal Hotspot on my AT&T iPhone 7 Plus operates in 802.11n with my 2016 MacBook. Both devices are 802.11ac. How can I get them to run on the faster protocol? Anyone with link on where I can read more about the tech specs? Thanks for your help.
