according to the txt I got from att If you aren't eligible for the full discounted upgrade you can still get a higher priced early upgrade discount. Have to check with att to see what that cost is.

$399 for the 16GB
$499 for the 32GB

When I text the number to get my upgrade status this is what I got.

The weird thing is I got my iPhone in August 2009? Is it because I'm a "premier" customer due to the Fan # discount that I get this or what?

Pricing it on their website when it takes me to the business section when I go to "upgrade" it lists $199 and $299 for the 3GS currently.

My contract expires in November 2010. I was up for an upgrade in May, but once I sold my iPhone they took the data plan off, which bumped my upgrade back to July 14th.

Am I able to get the iPhone 4 with the full upgrade pricing since my contract expires in 2010?

I dunno, because I am a business customer and I got my iPhone in August 2009 as well, yet mine says I can not upgrade until April 13th, 2011.

wonder if there will be any full price options so you can buy it without having to renew the contract. since the savings for early upgrade is only 100 I would rather pay that 100 then have the option for full discount on upgrade the following year (if they keep up this once a year iphone upgrade process)

EDIT: actually looking at this page http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=18004&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=30863 it looks like its a $200 discount still for early upgrades......

It was my understanding that if you're contract is up by Dec 2010, you are now qualified to get the subsidized upgrade price. Anytime after that you are like me, you can get the new IPhone for the upgrade price + $200 ( or $100 less the non contract price go figure ), so Jan 2011 on, too bad.

If you're contract is up by year's end, start thinking about a new IPhone if you want.

We switched from Verizon also... I don't know why it shows that I can get a 2 year price :S

When I click on "Upgrade" and then click upgrade eligibility for my iphone and go to shop for a new iPhone these are the prices it gives me.

The brand new 3GS models seem to have gotten cheaper.

My contract is not up until 2011 (I purchased a 3GS on July 17th). However, the page is telling me that I will be eligible for a full upgrade on December 17th, 2010. Does this mean that AT&T will bump me up or do I get limited to my contract?

The press release says "Existing iPhone customers eligible for an upgrade between today and the end of this year..."

I would be eligible for an upgrade, but my contract does not expire in time.

Any insight?

P.S. I'm a FAN customer, so I get pushed to the Premier site.

Where exactly are you checking so I can check there also?

yeah were do you look to for the upgrade??? i remember last month when i click on upgrade it said on my premier account that my iphone 3gs wasn't eligible to upgrade and i check it this morning now it says i can upgrade but it don't show me i can upgrade to other iphones only other smartphones like palm pre and blackberry. i think im going to give them a call and see

I checked both on AT&T's iPhone upgrade page (Go to your account, click Upgrade then click your phone's specific upgrade link then click on iPhones) and I dialed *639#.

Here is *639#'s message:
A full discount on a standard handset or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 12/17/2010. We can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price with a 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please visit a participating iPhone sales location for pricing on this offer.

Very strange since I got my iPhone after you and mine shows this...

"As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

What gives?!?

I checked and my warranty expires July 15th, 2011. So I purchased mine July 15th, 2009.

When an AT&T store rep told me those prices I had to look at him in dismay. That's really a discount? $100 off the non contract price? Not exactly endearing. Ah well, patience and an IPad will have to due till early next year.

No contract price will be 599/699. That would be 200.

I called a ATT Rep and she told me I'm eligible for a fully upgrade even when my original upgrade was march 2011 if this is true i would be stoke to get it at $299 32gb :D probably call again couple of days to see if i get a different rep and see what they say

What the??? My upgrade is October 2010 and it says that i have to pay the subsidized pricing??? I've had a 3G since May 2009 . Is there any way that they haven't finished upgrading their systems or something

I'm glad I have a mint condition 16GB 3GS, they sell on eBay for $400+! So getting the new iPhone 4 and paying the ETF won't be so bad after all w00t! :D

I didn't see this posted yet but here are some of the details for AT&T pre-orders and upgrade pricing
Thanks, I popped onto the forum to look for exactly this and it was at the top. :)

This is what I see too. I assume that means I could get the 16GB model for $199 + $18 and new 2-year commitment (and keep my Unlimited data plan or switch to the cheaper limited plans). Yes? I got my 3GS on release day last year.
