I know with the Verizon iPhones you have to worry about the esn number being bad, but what do you have to worry about AT&T iPhones?

Unless someone who got the AT&T iPhone switched out for refurb.

If someone offer AT&T iPhone with matching serial number imei that matches the iPhone box. You can pretty much guaranteed that iPhone wasn't stolen.

I always get suspicious if someone just offers the iPhone with no charger. Nature someone may throw the box away but how can someone with a smartphone not have a charger?

I hear you here... but they could just want to keep it for their replacement.

Pretty much nothing. However because AT&T now offers unlock to the iphone, I think it's about time you ask the buyer if is it unlocked or not. Just in case you need to travel abroad it's always a good idea to have it unlocked and use their GSM supported sim cards.

On CL, 99.9% of the time it won't be factory unlocked.

I may just have had a string of good luck - but I've had several successful craigslist purchases over the years. I've bought a macbook, ps3, and an iphone off craigslist (as well as some other stuff) and have always come out unscathed. I think if you 'screen' the people a bit first, meet in a public/safe place, and have an opportunity to have a look at what you're buying, you should be fine.

Duh, however, if people these days know that AT&T unlocks iphone, and people start posting them. Then it will likely be unlocked. YOu just have to contact the seller first tho.

I'd say meet the buyer at at&t don't tell them at the store you are buying it though. you are brothers or sisters and want to see about transferring it. this way you can verify any problems before you buy. also you can ask the seller to see if they can unlock it for you offer a extra $25 or $50 if you have too. att has unlocked several iPhone's under different owners but it's more luck then anything.

At&t has never unlocked an iPhone until this past sunday.

Why brother and sister

just saying the pperson should say it's a gift. most reps if they here that this is a sale won't help you. simple logic they want to sell you a iPhone themselves. it also helps keep the seller honest.

I don't follow the logic. So since you bought one from someone else, they won't do it? For the most part AT&T reps have been pretty helpful for me.

going from experience at my at&t store I was the seller I volunteered that I was selling my iPhone 4 and buyer would be going att. he told me to go outside and meet him in the parking lot. he said technically he couldn't even see the transaction. Since it's against company policy. maybe your reps have different policy's or are cooler.
