So I had a 3G on one of my lines and had data disabled because the user was not tech savvy and did not require internet at all.

So it went on for almost a year and all of a sudden a new text message came up saying that the iPhone requires a data plan and it was added automatically.

That's interesting, considering that I changed the IMEI number to a different non-iPhone phone (try saying that 5 times.)

Where have you been for the last nine months??? AT&T has been actively scanning their network for devices without data plan since September. Surprised it took them this long to catch you. It doesn't matter what IMEI you give them over the phone, OLAM updates automatically every time you connect to network.
