Hello,

I was looking at the off contract iphone 5s over at radio shack.
They only sell them through AT&T and the guy said it would
need to be unlocked by AT&T after i buy it.

How would this compare to buying one unlocked from apple.com?
What do you think is better?

Thanks,
Nick

If you buy it full price from an Apple Store it will be unlocked (either AT&T or Verizon will work - T-Mobile, too, but stores don't seem to be getting many of them). I'm not sure how it works from apple.com since they make you enter your account information. Even if you've had your phone for a year they'll push you into a partially subsidized ($549 for the base model) contract.

If you buy the phone full price from RadioShack you can submit a form on AT&T's website to request an unlock. It will take a few days to process, at which time you can unlock by restoring through iTunes.

The support chat on the at&t website can unlock it immediately if needed.
