Hey everyone. A question for anyone with knowledge of AT&T Premier accounts. Earlier this week, I ordered an iPhone 4 and got a Premier discount via my job. Well, today, I find out that I'm being let go and I got 90 days notice (my employment will terminate at the end of Oct).

When you get a Premier discount on your bill based on your job, can that be "taken away" if you lose your job? Or have you basically just contracted at that price and you're good for the length of your contract? I used all my personal info for my AT&T account info, email, address, etc. So it's not like they are using my work email or address for any of the billing.

Unless your employer informs AT&T, it will stay. Some do, some don't. Simple as that, and it will be a waiting game. Your discount can be removed, even if you are on a current contract. It all just depends on whether or not your employer will inform AT&T.

Crappy. I can also get a Premier account with my college email address. The discount is 5% less, but that only amount to $3 and change in the end bill. But then I'd have to send back the first iPhone I ordered, then open a new account thru my college email and order another one. I'm on hold with AT&T Premier right now to ask, but I've been on hold for 25+ minutes so far. I might bail. lol.

You wouldn't have to return the phone? All you're losing is the discount. You can then add Premier Status to your account once more, simple as that. On the upgrade options page, it asks you to enter your school/work eMail. It will let you know if you qualify for a discount, and send you an email to the school/work eMail. Open the link, and voila. You have Premier status once more. You won't have to cancel your contract or return your phone at all.

yeah, def. hang up!

They will NEVER know. If by some RANDOM chance your employer contacts them (I HIGHLY doubt) then you can just apply your student discount to your account at that time, you DO NOT need to return your iPhone 4.

You are WAY better off just not saying a word and letting it play out, I am almost positive it will be in your favor. I kept a premier discount for over 2 years after I quit the job, and the only reason I lost the discount, is because I got a new job and I now get 25% off.

Don't worry about it. Half the people with Premier/FAN accounts never even worked for the company they get a discount under. I am sure they "could" take it away but I have never heard of that happen to anyone. I would also think IF they did that to a legit employee the former employee could terminate their account without penalty.

Now THAT'S what I like to hear! Thanks for that info.

So say... for example, my former employee informs AT&T that I am no longer eligible a month or so after I am terminated. At that point, I'll be informed of that status, but I can then log in to my online account, and add Premier Status again? That's great. I'd be going from a 25% to a 20% discount, but either way it works out pretty good. I have a feeling my company wouldn't even bother with ratting me out to AT&T. I work for one of the largest healthcare/pharma companies in the world (maybe even the biggest). Ratting out employees with cellphone accounts, I'm sure is not on their priority lists. But if they did, it's good to know I have a backup plan and all I lose is my 5%.

Thanks again for that info. You seem to know a lot about the Premier accounts.

I totally hung up. It was taking forever. You guys answered all my questions anyway.

Also, in general, once you establish a Premier account, do you generally just keep that discount each time you top up your contract, or do you need to re-apply, re-submit or anything?

Who gives you 25%? Geez! CISCO only gives me 22%, wth lol.

You keep your discount for as long as you or your employer tells AT&T otherwise. I agree with the other posts, the employer rarely contacts AT&T. Much easier just to keep it.

I've topped-up 2 contracts on my account so far and that hasn't affected the Premier discount (no new submission/reapplication) - nor should it, since you're just upgrading the phone on a current Premier account. It's the account that matters, not the phone or length/status of contract.

My company is giving me 25% too! That's why I don't wanna lose it. The job is already gone (90 days from now), the least they can do is let me get a nice discount before they boot me into the street. lol.

I work at a hospital... top 10 teaching hospitals in the country... actually the very first one ever founded. Well first one founded primarily for teaching that is.... they belong to a very big "hospital group"... and I get amazing discounts with them for just about anything.... highly recognized.

I am fortunate enough to actually have a job in today's economy, let along one with the benefits and discounts I receive... I'm blessed.

Yeah, 25% off on your bills is VERY nice ;) I'm in love with it.

I have a line with 5 iphones, and with ALL (I get other discounts as well) I only pay $241/month.... pretty remarkable. ATT has me as a customer for life (unless they change my bill)

Good point. That is a pretty good score there. I am thinking one for $53 ain't too shabby either. But you done good.

Yeah the discounts are clutch with ATT and the iPhone plans IMO.

I probably wouldn't have the phones if I didn't get the discounts that I get on top of my premier discounts.

Is there a limit to how many discounts get applied? I never knew that discounts were cumulative...other than the one you get from your employer, what other types of discounts are available?

My employer and my school, neither give discounts for any texting packages, nor for the 200MB Data Plan (though they do give a discount for the 2GB Data Plan). is this how it is for you all too?

They are indeed cumulative.

You can get employer discounts, "good customer" discounts, "good faith" discounts, discounts for being disgruntled, etc etc... there are plenty of them.

How does one go about getting some of these other discounts?

you get to keep the discount each upgrade/new contract. I've had the same 20% discount for like 5 years. I haven't had the job that got me it for about the past 3! not a abig deal. the people you buy from or deal with could care less!! don't fret.
