And last time I use tethering was 2 years ago when 3GS was released. So what happens to my unlimited data plan now??

So you think it's better to ask a forum of strangers that can't answer your question vs. calling AT&T directly and asking them? I guess my logic is totally off base here.

That uh... that completely sucks. I'd totally bail on them now and move to Sprint. At which point you'll have a 4S that isn't jailbroken.

And gees dude, check your messages!! 200 unread?

I doubt they send that message without with proof that you are indeed tethering. Either that or you are just using an absurd amount of data on your iPhone.

AT&T reserves the right to "correct" plans for iPhone usage on their network. This fact is widely known.

When we T-Mobile users get "asssimilated", we'll be getting a message that we "have an incorrect iPhone data plan" in the same manner...

I had an unlimited plan and barely used 50mb/month for the last 2 years. I upgraded the wife's phone (with my upgrade) which kicked me to a 2gb limit but I didn't care since I didn't DL much. I tethered while on vacation since hotel internet fees were $15/day but still stayed just below the 2gb limit. A few days later I get the tethering msg. I just sent an email via ATT support and told them to keep my plan the same and they did.

I'll use the 2gb however I like. That'd be like buying a soda at the store and getting charged 50 cents extra if you wanted to drink it in the car instead of at home. If ATT thought they had a legal right to bump you to a tethering plan, do you think they would allow you to opt out of it? They are trying to trick you into agreeing on a higher plan.

Where do I send the email?

no call and THREATEN to switch to Sprint...AT&T should be willing to accomodate you based on Sprint being added as an iPhone carrier

This never works. AT&T does not care about their customers one bit. I'd be shocked if they gave two ***** about this threat. I said I was heading to VZW after being with AT&T for 10 years (AT&T by way of acquisitions) and they told me on VZW I could not talk and surf and could not have the iPhone (when I switched).
