At&t store no cash or Apple store no cash

I have seen threads on here saying you cant use cash for the 3g iphone.I wanted to know is that at the At&t store only or at Apple only or both.The reason I am asking is because I was in the At&t store today and they said they have never heard that.Can someone please unconfuse me on this credit card only thing.

I believe that's only at Apple stores. They are going the credit/debit card only route because they are trying to streamline the process with EasyPay handhelds to process the purchases:
