In a van down by the river
I am currently paying $45 a month for the “Go Big” package with HBO. The article isn’t really clear (to me) if price is going up to $85 a month or not. If it does go to $85, I will cancel the service.

$85 for the Go Big package.... yikes. YouTube TV seems like a great deal compared to the price hikes.

It appears that the charter subscribers will only see the Go Big package go up $10, to $60 (with no add ons).

If it was $85, then it's absolutely time to say adios.

The big bummer is that HBO (conveniently owned by AT&T), isn't available on YouTube TV, so it would be $15 for HBO Now. $50+15 = $65, which puts them on mostly even footing.

Except that YTTV offers things like multiple user profiles, more streams, a real functional DVR, better apps (?), and seemingly, a better experience overall.

AT&T is surely inching closer to pushing the stalwarts closer to the edge; it's almost like they want this whole thing to fail, so they can write it off sooner. With only 1.34M subscribers for a national service, it's hardly worth the effort.

Watch your inboxes, I guess.

Look for YouTube to raise their price very soon.

I think all the big streaming services will follow. They seem to always follow, when one raises the price. At these prices, it won't even be worth it to stream anymore. Might as well do a bundled cable tv/internet package.

Check out Philo, they seem like a nice option for only $20 a month.

They did have a $16 tier at one point, but I think it was dropped.

While I am paying for a DirecTV Now sub, I never use it. I got it for my parents to help with cord cutting.

I haven't seen any notice for the grandfathered plans yet.

It some cases, the Cables' services might be cheaper.

Even it if was, I would still pay more for the non-cable services. That way, I would have to rent expensive, old, huge, outdated, and slow STBs from the cable companies and just use my ATV.

I agree. Live TV Streaming was supposed to be the cheaper alternative to cable/satellite since there’s no hardware or any boxes they have to pay for and provide to customers. We use our internet that we pay for to use their service. We’re getting to a point to where I think networks will only be kicking themselves in the rear end because people will just let TV ago and stick with on demand content.

To me with all this streaming many ISPs will institute Bandwidth Caps fees once again!
Well, there still places in the US were the local ISPs have data caps.

Just an educated guess, but I don't think that data caps will make a comeback.

They currently mostly exist where there are only one option of ISP and people have no choice but deal with it. With 5G fixed wireless access expanding over the next few years, competition will increase, and hopefully data caps for home internet will become a thing of the past.

The Content Cartel is in control, and there is little the distributors can do about it. It's a carousel of carriage fee disputes that moves from distributor to distributor and provide to provider, as contracts expire.

With ATTTVN, CBS was recently blacked out, and ABC was under threat until they reached a new agreement. Local stations belonging to Sinclair may be next.

Those that can afford it have grabbed their own piece of the media pie to have a better hand at the negotiating table. If you're Disney, you can deal knowing in the back of your mind "it would be a shame if your customers weren't able to watch ESPN…"

AT&T went into massive debt acquire Warner, and now has HBO in its pocket. Comcast has NBCUni.

Even worse, those who own the content are now going directly after your customers with their own OTT services.

OTT services still have benefits in terms of flexibility, ease of use, and lack of commitments, but the ever increasing cost of programming has eroded much of the price advantage.

Actually, you can just buy a Tivo and have the best piece of equipment to watch and record cable on. Love my Tivo and commercial skip, as I use it for OTA, but could use it for cable if I return to that too.

I find it rather odd, that AT&T doesn’t bother to post any increase information in your account online, where you can review the notice of upcoming changes to the account.

No email, yet.

isnt the plan already $75 for the Go Big package? It just gets discounted by $25 because its grandfathered.
this would be the what , 3rd increase in less than 2 years? I haven’t received any email yet but if I do Ill def be canceling

You will get it Nov1 , just chatted with them. I also see no reason to pay 720/year to watch commercials, multi-million talking heads and fake smiles. :)

Regarding YoutubeTV I have a strong feeling that they also increase in a month or 2.

Just got the email as well:

the price of your AT&T TV NOW package will be increasing to $60 starting with your 12/13/2019 payment.

I would give it a shot. I really thought about leaving but other services either don’t have Viacom or ESPN
I was told to contact them next month about my new bill pricing. Agent said she made notes in my account to her supervision about keeping my bill the same. I don't believe a word of that. December 1, I will contact them online again and it will be do or die for them, not that they really care about me. They are the Death Star after all.

I just got the email from AT&T TV Now that my plan will be increasing from $45 to $85 dollars starting with next month's bill. Doubling the price is unacceptable to me.

I recall some people contacted AT&T during one of the earlier price changes, and being given individual adjustments. Are you one of them?

I'm a charter ("Early Adopter" in AT&T's terms) Go Big subscriber, with HBO + MAX, and current rate is $60. With the base package going up $10 to $60, I expect it to be $70 total next cycle. Back in March, those premium channels went from $5 to 10, and $5 to 11 respectively, but for those grandfathered, the only thing that went up was the base package, otherwise, I'd already have been paying more than $60 for my service.

I've never contacted them, made any changes to my account, nor have any other discounts.

I suspect those who have had their accounts adjusted, even if charter subscribers, have lost their "status" and are being hit with the full force of the new rates.

There's no way a charter Go Big subscriber should be charged any more than the new $60 base rate, if they have no add ons. Those who have the grandfathered Go Big plan, but aren't charter subs will see it go to $85.

I am grandfathered but not charter. I signed up shortly after the charter period. I have the HBO add-on as well.

My Go Big package goes up to $60 December 6th. I bet it won't be long before they drop increase the $5 HBO price I am paying.
