Since both Verizon and Sprint have confirmed their devices can and will be unlocked, how do you think this will affect AT&T? I sure do hope it puts pressure on them. I'm considering switching for the advantage. Aside from mitigated roaming costs, we're also looking at a significantly higher resale value.
 
I don't believe unlocking is confirmed with either carrier for general use. We queried Verizon and they would unlock for a short duration "trip" purpose if they did not have a partner network in the target country, however it was not permanent.

They also would only do this on established accounts with 6 months history.

We are not buying CDMA phones now.
