AT&T Upgrade eligibility help

My parents already have a plan on AT&T. To avoid the credit check, etc, I was planning on going in and opening up a new line on the same account.

Would I be eligible for the upgrade price if I added myself onto their family plan? Would I need to start my own separate plan? Or would I not be able to do any of those and have to go with opening up my own account?

Adding a line onto an existing account would be eligible for upgrade pricing. Note that your parents would need to be present to add the line.
