My iPhone4 contract is up and I'm considering buying a new iPhone5S/5C. My only concern is that I might move to Canada in a year and a half from now and I'm not sure if I would be able to continue to use the phone in Canada. Maybe switch over to another AT&T plan if that happens which will enable me use in Canada until the contract is up?

Anyone know?

The ETF is $325 - $10 for each month you completed service under the contract. If you cancel the contract in 18 months, then you will pay $325-$180. I don't think there is a fee for them to unlock your device.

AT&T waived my ETF when I moved to canada. Just explain to them that you are required to move out of country for work/school. Got it waived with no problem. Went to the Rogers store once I got to Canada, got a SIM and plan and then I was using my iphone immediately.

Edit: I didn't to pay AT&T to unlock either.
