Why not announce it in September, pre-order at the end of September early October and launch it end of October early November. Just a guess.

honestly, its more the fact that I won't know what it is till late september than the fact that I won't actually have it until october that's bothering me

The preorder date is never a long time before the actual launch.

My thoughts exactly.

October seems too late. I want a new phone as soon as possible.

Would this mean that Apple would have their iPod event in late September?

Hopefully not.

early sep iPod event, with pre orders at the end of sep ready for an early october launch.

I hope. I just want to see all the new products already and get a solid iOS 5 release date. :)

I'm not sure of the reason why, but many manufacturers time their big products to come out in the fall. Maybe spending tends to go up around then?

An October launch is going to put the new iPhone in direct contention with a lot of other flagship phones.

Timing is everything in so many cases. So is experience.

Currently I'm finding that SL 10.6.5 is really doing the job for me. I have it well optimized on several of my 2010 machines such as my 15" MBP, 13" MBA, and Mac Pro. They are all fast, fun and super stable. It just doesn't get any better.

With this setup I am happily avoiding the early Lion bugs and annoyances. I'm able to sit back, relax and enjoy what I have. My iPhone 4 is filling my needs, and I have no interest in the iPhone 5.

There's simply too many good things on the horizon for Apple during 2012, with the advent of the A6 chip, the iOS improvements that will come along with it, and a well sorted Lion and iCloud.

It's a great time in AppleLand to sit back, relax and leave the madness of buying the "next great iPhone" to everyone else.

Life is good :)

I just want to the announcement to happen already. I need a new phone. At this point it seems like it might just be better to wait until my contract end on October 31st and then decide what company I want to go with.

October is really really late.

If this thing doesn't have LTE, then I don't understand what is up with all this delay.

LTE is the only reason why apple would delay a product this much far. This phone usually comes out in late June/Early July.

October is like 3 months late. That's a lot.

That's the exact reason. The iPhone will be a huge hit for the Christmas shopping season.

While I agree that releasing the iPhone at that time wouldn't hurt in any way, I really doubt it's because of the holiday season. If you look at their product release schedule over the past couple of years, none of them are really lined up with the intention of using the holiday season to boost sales. iPhones usually came out in the summer, iPads were early in the year, MacBook refreshes early in the year, etc.

I'm okay with an October launch. I just want the damn event to have an early as possible September date so we can see what the thing looks like already!

I love my iPhone 4 quite a bit, but the media event is going to determine whether or not I'm sticking with iOS or going to try out the Samsung GS2 for a year.

Hopefully they just won't drag out this media event, and keep it inline with the previous years time frames.
