On the day preorders opened, I ordered a 128gb 14Pro and plan to trade in my 11Pro 64gb. At that time, going direct through ATT, I was given a trade in of $800, but going through the Apple site, I was told $999. All of my confirmation emails, texts, etc say $999, but ATT now says the trade in is $800 and Apple was wrong. Anyone else experiencing anything similar? I'm not sure what to expect and am worried, because ATT screwed me when I got my 11 Pro and traded in a perfectly good X.

Isn't $999 simply the retail price of the phone before trade? The AT&T trade-in deal spreads the $800 trade-in credit out over 36 months.

$999 financed at 0% for 36 months is $27.75/month. $800 spread over 36 months is around $22.22/month which when deducted from $27.75/month equals $5.53/month as show in screenshot from Apple site below:

Where / how did AT&T tell you this? I'm in the same boat: traded in an 11 Pro, and all the ordering screens and confirmation emails from Apple stated the following:

Your iPhone 11 Pro:
AT&T bill credits over 36 mo.: $1000.00

I just logged into my AT&T account, but couldn't see anything anywhere about my trade-in value. I'm just curious where I should be looking -- thanks!

(Also FWIW I haven't sent my 11 Pro back yet. Perhaps that's where you're getting the $800 value from -- the receipt of the trade in?)

I got an email from ATT which included language that may have indicated I ordered wireless service. So I called them to confirm that it was just my phone order. While on the phone, I asked to confirm the trade in value of $999 and was told it was $800. Got my shipping notification early this morning and a trade in initiation email. That email also says $999. Maybe Apple was offering $999, but ATT only $800?

Yea maybe through Apple you get higher. Haven't checked the carrier sites. TMo seems the best since you get instant + bill credits totalling $1k. And VZW is the same except it only totals $800. AT&T is all credits, which is good as long as you don't change carrier and keep your phone longer.

Don't know if this helps any, but in another thread, a commenter said the following (emphasis mine):

Purchased My 14 Pro in store on launch day, went back last night to trade in my old phone after making sure all my various work authenticators, etc, were transferred to the 14. I do this every year when I or my wife upgrade (bring both phones home, and return later to complete the trade in). Last night the rep went through the whole trade in process but at the end said that with the $1000 trade in deals this year it HAS to be done through the mail. Not a fan of mail in trades since I hear enough stories of values being lowered when it's received that I'd rather not chance it. Has anyone been able to do the trade in in store (with AT&T if it's different for different carriers)

I would honestly prefer to get the trade in value off the top of the phone cost not credited over 36 months. Might be better to just go with Sim Free from Apple and trade in device straight with them. I know that if you buy phone for T-Mobile via Best Buy they will credit the trade in against the phone cost. This is not the case if you buy and trade in directly with T-Mobile

There seems to be some discrepancy between the Apple website and related email. The website (as shown in my screen shot above) only applied the $800 AT&T trade but email appears to show $999.

The reason AT&T gives a much higher trade is because they want to lock the customer in for 36 months. If someone trades through Apple without going with the AT&T offer, the trade-in value would only be $300.

Yes there is something to be said about that too. I guess it is ok if you are sure that you are going to be staying with the same carrier

On ATT website says only 11 Pro Max qualifies for $1000 and 11 Pro on $800. Apple says same.
  • To qualify for $1000 credit, minimum Trade-In value must be $230 or higher after device condition questions have been answered
  • Eligible devices:
    • Apple iPhone: 11 Pro Max, 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max

  • To qualify for $800 credit, minimum Trade-In value must be $130-$229 after device condition questions have been answered
  • Eligible devices:
    • Apple iPhone: XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 12 mini

Sure enough, Apple lowered it from $1000 to $800 -- I just double-checked. It must have been an error somewhere.

When I ordered my 14PM on launch day, my 11Pro, financed through AT&T but purchased through Apple, had a trade-in value of $1000. I returned the 14PM last night (too damn big) and now when I try to buy the 14Pro non-max version, my 11Pro has a lowered trade-in value of $800.

Bummer.

FWIW both the Apple and AT&T trade-in values now match.

Whats kinda BS in this situation is that att says device must be worth at least $230 trade in value to qualify for $1000. Well, most everywhere else says trade in value is like $290 or $300. So should qualify. Now is when maybe previous installments are ending or lots might be thinking time for new device after 3 years.
More upper hand greedy tactics by AT&T.
