So I have 2 laptop hard drives which I thought were ATA. I want to get the materials off them as they have sentimental value. I found one of our older computers which has a ATA port which was connected to the CDrom drive. I disconnected this and tried to connect the drive and ATA cable together, which they will not do. What am I missing? I know very little about ATA/IDE other than IDE requires its own power source where as ATA does not.
