When you have an external HD plugged into your ATD, and a Macbook hooked up to the ATD as well, do you need to "eject" the HD with your Macbook running before you unplug and take it on the go each day?

Or does leaving the HD connected to the ATD keep it "mounted" as far as the HD is concerned?

Just wondering how much of a hassle it's going to be to take the Macbook on the go each day, after docking at home with an ATD and external HD.

The external disk needs to be unmounted which is a bit of a hassle. Sometimes I just pull the plug.
