Ok someone might be able to help me, I have a mac pro 2009 with a NV GT120 GFX card. Ive been waiting to upgrade to a 5870 for ages and was hopeing Apple might release the update that has been on the website for ages anytime soon, but ive given up waiting now i have ordered the 5770 for now.

anyways, will i need to install anything after i fit the new Ati 5770? like drivers ect, and can anyone point me in the direction of where to download these mac drivers please.

Iam looking forward to the card arriving as i have also purchased a new screen, my trusted 24' Hyundai has started having trouble switching on and off so before it goes completely i decided to get another 24" which is big enough for me. I went for the HP LP2475w S-ips panel so iam hopeing these 2 will give me a good combination of GFX and visuals.

Can I see a speed improvement in my MacPro Nehalem (2009) if I replace the Geforce GT 120 by the ATI radeon 5770? I don't play games, but I use Vectorworks, Photoshop and IMovie.

well iam running 10.6.4 on my 2009 mac pro quad. so hopefully it will have the GFX update included. if notwhere can i download it just incase?

Have software update do a check. If you aren't offered it, you should already have it.

I got tired of waiting as well and ordered the 5770 today.
Hopefully it will be a good improvement from the 8800GT.
Judging by Barefeet bench marks, I'll be happy with it.

5770 is good enough, I have the 5870, I wondered if ATi's 6000 series will come to the Mac Pro

me too

You'd be surprised how many people install the 5770, don't have at least the Graphics Update, and then post about it. :)

you're not kidding - I just did the same thing. well, I didn't post, but I came looking for an answer about only one display being recognized after installing the 5770.

I was at 10.6.2. Assumed that was OK. Assumed WRONG! :)

Whoda thought this graphics card I ordered without any real research was so new?

Anyway, thanks for the help. Seriously I don't know how long it would've taken for me to consider upgrading the OS.

Well, it's not like much research needed to be done outside of reading the box the card comes in. Isn't it written on the box that 10.6.5 is required? :p

The 5870 webpage also says 10.6.4 and figured the same with the 5770 but well... hurrah for inconsistencies!

Yeah either way the poster should have seen seen that requirement at some point in time before it got put in the machine you would think apparently not though...

I will be replacing a 8800 GT with a ATI 5770. My system is up to date according to software update. Do i need to reinstall any updates?

As long as you are running 10.6 and are up to date, then no.

If you're running 10.5, then you need to buy 10.6.
