Hi,

Does anyone know what the differences are? I can't find any significant info over at ati.com.
I've got this luxury problem: I currently own a Sawtooth G4 with a Radeon 8500 installed, and I'm expecting my new Dual 1.25 this weekend (YEEHAAA!!!) , which has the 9000 installed.
I just wonder which card will perform best in the Dual 1.25.
Any ideas?
Tnx in advance.

the 9000 is a more powerfull card and will work better in the new G4, for example it has a new shading engine and other bits and bobs

it is also better optimised for Quartz Extreme

Adurbe is not entirely correct. The 8500 is the more powerful card, even though it lacks some of the newer technology that the 9000 possesses. At any rate there is not very much difference in performance between the two cards.

The 8500 has more rendering pipelines and faster clock, and therefore, is faster. The shaders in the 9000 arent even used in todays games.

BUT, it does depend on the game. I have heard of a 9000 running some games faster than an 8500 and vice versa.

Just try both cards, running roughly the same level and see which you think runs better. Its a no headache situation with Mac because drivers are already included, so, give it a shot.

sawtooth 8500 antialias

Anyone using an 8500 in a sawtooth and noticed antialiasing issues?
I've heard of problems with Jaguar and the radeon 8500, mostly the new 3D spinning beachball and its drop shadow. Any confirmation of this?

Just wondering 'cos I want to put one in a 450 sawtooth.

I see.... I'll try both. I'll test F1 2000, Nascar and RTCW, and see if I can spot the differences.
Tnx guys.

I also had the understanding that the 8500 was marginally faster, but I doubt most people would even notice the diffrence. Your dual 1.25 is beter off with a card that supports ADC, since you never know if you'll end up with an Apple monitor in the future.
