Why does it say GT thought?

Thanks for the info, any idea on improvements or whatnot?

My guess is that it is related to a problem that arose for me during the recent EFI update. After cleanly running the EFI firmware update my X1900 was fried. I couldn't display any video. They sent an applecare guy out, he swapped the card and now everything is fine. They didn't hesitate to send someone, so I'm guessing I wasn't the only "victim." Aside from having to run headless for a few days, I can't complain about the service. The guy was ready to replace the logic board if it was necessary.

I know what it does

I believe this firmware update introduces a behavior modification to the X1900xt.

Essentially, this firmware attempts to make the x1900x feel better by convincing the card that is is not two year old tech that ATI themselves EOL'd nine months ago.

As a result, the card "feels" better so it has less tendency to overheat.

Apple forgot to change the GT to XT when they got the documentation from ATI? It's obviously a typo. In one area it says XT, in the other GT. The firmware update would come from ATI, and ATI only sells a Radeon X1900GT as a retail Mac card.

Given the timing, maybe it is Leopard related? I mean, to make it work more optimally with Leopard drivers.

This isnt coming through my software updater.... has it for anyone else? Not so keen on installing something when I dont know what it does.. (I cant find any documentation on this update)

Anyone do this?
