I have a PowerMac 2.0 G5 with 3gb ram and run a 24" Dell LCD
for the last year ive been running an ATI X800 XT 256mb agp vid card
and all has been great..., then just the other day after i came home from work. my computer was off. which was weird as i leave it on all the time.
when i tried it boot it up. it just clicked and nothing.. i first thought maybe the powersupply was fried.. but it was getting some power but then immediately shut down. no chime no fans.. nothing.. then i thought maybe the motherboard is fried or something.. I was pretty worried as .. I didnt really have 1000 bucks burning a hole in my pocket to fix it.. anyways i took the system into a local mac service centre.. a day later they called and said my videocard is causing the problem.. i thought that was very weird. anyways i removed the card. and send in an rma request with ati. to get it exchanged since it has a 3 yr warr. I am a graphic designer and i need my computer at home for freelance work.. i cant be without a computer for 1 week let alone a month waiting for a new warrenty replaced card.. so i shopped around and found the cheapest solution. until i get the card back.. i bought a new retail ATI Raedeon 9200 PCI 128mb.. not that cheap really but i needed my system running asap.
So its running now with this 9200 and its fine.. but i cant watch videos.. found out cause its not running Quarz extreme.. its all running in software mode as tiger doesnt support PCI cards with Quartz... so its very stuttery and sound sucks too..
so after 2 hours with the 9200 i cant wait to get my x800xt back.
I sure hope the new cards lasts longer then the last one
