ATI has introduced a new program called Avivo Video Converter that allows users with an ATI Radeon X1000 and up to convert pretty much any video format to video iPod MPEG4/H.264 format. The conversion is much faster than QuickTime Pro. Only works for PC users though.

so it only works if you have a radeon 1000 series? darn...
oh well, i have nero recode anyway so i don't suppose it matters.
