I don't know much about it, but this looks interesting.

"THIS is the amazing image which could show the fabled sunken city of Atlantis."

Sorry, it's the Sun. That and there's been enough evidence to nearly definitively point to the true identity of Atlantis. While I have a respect for real science I think that people seeking another Atlantis are a bit obsessed :p

Over the centuries, thousands of towns and cities have been lost to the sea. Some fall into it as the cliffs they stand on errode, others are overwhelmed as the low-lying land they're on is flooded.

The photo may well show evidence of the foundations of a lost settlement, but I think the interest is purely archaeological rather than mythical. I wouldn't get too excited about 'Atlantis' being under there...

It took me less than 20 seconds to find that location after reading that article. It is very large. Also there are many similar structures in that region.

Yes, if they're trying to say those are streets then one building would be almost the size of Tenerife...

No streetview?:D:D If Google is willing to buy me a submarine, I'll photograph the area for them.:cool:

I'll bet it's those crop circle aliens.:p This is their revenge for the US government cutting up their compatriots, who made a pit stop at Roswell.

Google says:

"...what users are seeing is an artifact of the data collection process. Bathymetric (or sea-floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea-floor.

'The lines reflect the path of the boat as it gathers the data. The fact that there are blank spots between each of these lines is a sign of how little we really know about the world's oceans."

i still think Atlantis is in the Bahamas and has been taken over by little bratty kids while there parents go and gamble and get drunk ;)

If Atlantis was so advanced wouldn't they have built a boat or something after all Noah did it... :p

...they reckon it's the size of Wales...

Lazy journalist units when writing an article:

  • It's really big: about the size of Wales.
  • Quite big: about the size of a football pitch.
  • Not so big: about the size of a double-decker bus.

Ooh, and I approve of your plan, I'll have a beach front property! :D

the image is interesting but it's hard to imagine anything on that scale actually built. there is nothing else on earth that compares. not even close.
certainly it's not a city, as any of the single 'blocks' would be itself as large as a big city. if they were real, they'd be like some huge and very long canals.

it seems also improbable that something this obvious would have gone unnoticed until now.

on the other hand, for my understanding bathymetric artifacts look quite different from that (look on the ocean floor just off rhode island for some obvious examples).

maybe someone at google just 'beautified' the ocean just for kicks.

i am sure some sonar-equipped boat is on its way as we speak to verify the claim.
