Does anybody have a clue as to how long Att's Direct Fulfillment should take? The store I bought one at ran out of 8G's right before my turn. 4G isn't even an option IMHO. I'm hoping for a couple days...but Apples 2-4 week online sales kinda worries me. It's not a huge deal...I'm just hoping for the best. :)

They ran out of phones 3 people in line before me, so I went with the direct fulfillment too, because the option was between placing the order via at&t at 5:30 PCT (and being before all the orders at 6 PCT) or going home and placing the order myself. The people were pretty close-lipped about the time it will take, because they probably didn't know. But it seem they implied it would be a couple of days. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a couple weeks.

I got the confirmation email over the night, and the tracking system says that the handset is back ordered, with no information when it might ship.

direct fulfillment

One of the direct fulfillment many. Has any of your credit cards been changed? Mine has, but as AT&T hired 2,000 noobs it was more than likely a mistake. So I dobt I will be getting my phone anytime soon. ATT reps said direct fulfillment was the way too go, as we would be put ahead in line than any apple or ATT store the next day (6/30). So if that's the case, our phones should be on the way? Right?

My card was charged, but according to my bank it was charged the same time I was there. So I guess when they said that they wouldn't charge it until it shipped really meant that they've got no clue. Mine still says "back-ordered" on the order status page via the at&t site.

I went direct fulfillment too. ATT rep told me I would have my iPhone Monday or Tuesday... ha ha I bet that's not going to happen. I have back order noted on my phone too. And while they did not charge my card they did do a pre-autorization which will hold the funds for the iPhone purchase. If I don't see it shipping on Monday I'll see about cancelling and trying the Apple store. It seems like the Apple stores have a pretty decent supply. I'm a little irritated by ATT's bs on ordering I think they told everyone 2-3 days just to get us to order.

This blows. Still no "been shipped" email and iCare still shows "In Progress".

Where are our phones?

What if Att stores get in a fresh batch, but Direct Fulfillment still shows as backordered? I can see them doing that...and I will be pissed!

I checked my credit card statment this morning. The $640 charge is still there, even though ATT:apple: told me - that as an exisiting customer - I won't be charged until it is shipped.

I hope we all get them before the 4th!!

Well...perhaps some progress. My credit card was debited another $640 today at around noon (i purchased it at 7:30 pm on friday). Maybe this means that it's getting ready to ship. It also means that I've got $8 in my checking account. My order status page still says "backordered", so maybe it's not up to date.

No changes here. If I don't get mine Tues, I will cancel and head up to the :apple: store.

What kind of order numbers are we talking? (Is it easy to cancel?)

Around 6 weeks

I was just at the local AT&T store trying to figure out whether to order from them, drive 1.5 hours to an Apple store or order online. I asked how long he said several weeks. I said several? He said 6 or so. I asked if they came from the same warehouse as the Apple online store, he said yes didn't matter where I ordered from the wait would be the same. Seems a little fishy to me. This was the 8gb iphone, supposedly the 4gb are available.

Cancel your orders now!! I spoke with ATT, they don't have any iphones in stock. They told me that the sales was wrong and that our credit cards get charged. They were also wrong in telling us that we will get them in 3-5 days. I wasn't able to cancel over the phone so I called my credit card and had them cancel the charges. Direct Fulfillment was a bad choice regarding the iphone, they shouldn't of offered it.

I did go to the ATT store to get my refund... and they didn't know how to cancel the Direct Fullillment. They said that the phone should be tracked through apple. I tried the order number on the website, it didn't work. Spoke with apple and they didn't find it, and we spent the next 15 minute looking for a 8GB and roasting ATT's horrible, worthless help.

At&t just sent me tracking info because my 8gb just shipped. It should be here by 3pm tomorrow. I ordered it friday night and was 3 people after they sold out.

You can't cancel Direct Fulfillment orders; I tried to at the ATT store and they said I should just refuse delivery. Today I see ATT has charged me twice and thrown in accessories that I didn't order.

What was your order number on AT&T's site? Do you know about what time you placed your order?

I bought my iPhone at an AT&T store and they were telling people that we could we could order it through them and that anyone who did so would be shipped their phone before the stores were resupplied. They told us this in advance since they knew they didn't have enough 8GB iPhones to satisfy demand (I managed to get the second to last one). Had they run out, I would have simply driven to the Apple store (which unfortunately is an hour away, which is why I went to the AT&T store instead). Either that or I would have ordered it online from Apple. No way was I going to trust the salespeople inside the AT&T store!

My order number was between 40000 and 50000. I don't think that the order numbers a sequential. I ordered it at 7:22pm central time on Friday night according to the receipt. I was the 3rd person at my store to do the direct fulfillment. Our store had 30 iphones (20 8gb / 10 4gb).

There was someone on another message board that ordered one this morning from their local at & t store and it shipped tonight, so there must be a whole bunch of factors.

Yeah, some were that ordered closer to 7pm central are in the upper 30000's; no notifications there, apparently. So I guess they're not going sequentially.

Were you at the Savoy, IL AT&T store? I'm from Champaign and thats where I was. I did the Direct Fulfillment thing. Have not recieved my iPhone yet

I was! It really sucks that that store is the only place for iphones in the area. Not even the campus Apple store sells them. I wanted to punch that at&t guy in the face so bad. Sometimes, salespeople make me crazy.

I placed my order on Friday. When I checked the order status on saturday it said backordered. I was afraid of waiting weeks for it so i stopped by an apple store and was able to pick one up. They had lots of them. I then went to at&t to cancel my direct fulfillment order but they wouldnt let me.

I checked my order status today and it shipped yesterday and it will arrive thursday. So i now have 2 8gb phones. I'm probably just going to return the i ordered from at&t to the store i ordered it from.
