Letting almost everyone be eligible to upgrade so early. If they hadn't of done this then it would have been a more pleasant experience.

Pleasant experience for us - no. But they did it to lock in many of us for two more years.

Once Apple announces the end of their exclusive agreement with AT&T, many people will likely wait to buy with a competitor. This at least guarantees AT&T prolonged business for a little while longer.

I think it was a smart move.

People whine every year about how they should be able to buy the iphone at it's subsidized price and every year ATT nudges up the eligibility date for most customers. Just wait next year people will again be whining about how the iphone 5 is coming out and they don't understand why they can't upgrade till December of 2011. It's what happens in our spoiled rotten society.

I thought that allowing people who pay more than $100 a month of their iphone service to get a new iphone ever 12 months, was generous enough, but it just keeps getting sillier and sillier.
