I have the plan that gives me free HBO with AT&T as well. You can redeem the free HBO with a free DirecTV NOW account. Once you signed up for that, you can verify your mobile number and claim your free HBO subscription.

Then you can download the HBO GO app on your phone or Apple TV (basically anything that has an HBO GO app) and sign in using your DirecTV NOW account. Viola. Free HBO.
