I have found something that I find quite interesting. As I searched Apple's jobs.apple.com webesite for oppertunites in Montreal, I found a listing to be quite interesting. When you select "Retail" and browse Montreal, (we all know Quebec currently does not have any Apple retail stores, only Toronto thus far) it shows "Montreal-Carrefour Laval"!!

I think that is awsome news as it must mean we are getting an Apple store hopefully quite soon. That shopping center is located about 10 minutes from where I live and is quite the nice place, Apple would do quite well there.

What do you guys think, false hope, or is Apple comming to Quebec in the near future.

Also, are any of you suprised that they seem to be going with Carrefour Laval instead of something like the Eaton Center and or Complex les Ailles which are both downtown. Carrefour Laval though quite large probably serves a lot less people then the aforementioned...

Well geez. If I didn't just move, at least it will be a closer store to visit.

Edit:: The Eaton Center and or Complex les Ailles are pretty crazy places if I remember correctly, maybe Apple is looking for a less crowded place for a store?

Just pulled this off macnn.com today:

"Apple is opening another retail store at Carrefour Laval in Montreal, Quebec. Apple has posted job ads in french on the Monster.ca website. So if you are looking to become a Spécialiste du Mac or a Directeur de boutique then polish off your resume and join Apples retail team in Quebec."

Personally i think this is a poor location. While the mall itself is decent, i don't think it's going to get the best results for Apple. It's really only accessable by car. It's not even on the island of Montreal.

Myself, I'll drive a ways to go to stores i like (and i'm definately not the norm by Montreal standards; anywhere thats futher than a 20 minute walk is "sooo far away for most). But i can guarentee, even as a huge Apple fan and supporter i'll at most find myself at that location twice a year. Most people i know won't even realize the store exists unless i tell them and will probably never step foot inside. Now if it was on St Catheraine street or St Laurent the walk in traffic would be insane. Especially during festival season.

Damn!

We need a store in Vancouver.....GRRRRR....

Vancouver should have a store. I'm sure they will shortly with all the economic boom thats going to be happening because of the olympics. That being said I'd also like to see an Apple store in our nation's capital (it's a closer drive for me).

Apple Store in Laval instead of Montreal Island????
I give 12 months after the opening before shuting it down.
Why? Laval and NorthShore of Laval is mostly french speaking Canadien. And there is a HUGE gap between the english software content and the french software content.
When I was working for an Apple only retail store many years ago, it was THE reason why sales were not growing. So the sorre closed. BMAC store in Laval had similar problem getting french software. This store had 2 floors of Mac products, then 1 floor, then half of it and then it was the first of many Bmac to shut it's door (to be fair Bmac had other problems).
Bmac Laval was located in a shopping Center just beside the Carrefoor Laval and Microserv Laval (where I was working many, many years ago) was only a mile away from the future AppleStore.
In short... I'm not very optimistic. An iPod only store would have more chance of success.

yes, they should have one in Ottawa... I remember driving through half of Ottawa to get the last 12 inch Powerbook in the city... [there are apparently only 2 Compusmarts  ] Ottawa had never been so big until that day:p But that aside, they should have it, since Algonquin college does teach Graphic Design and where's there is a graphic design course, there's a demand for Apple computers...

I'm sure Algonquin has a on campus book/computer store that sells apple products at a educational discount. That said Ottawa is big enough and isolated enough to need/support an apple store.
