Going through the options on the site, it looks like the only plan available through ATT is a 30 month. I have always done the plan as well as the convenience of being baked into your monthly bill where you can upgrade every 12 months. Did they get rid of this option or am I missing it? With all these different options, it seems almost easier just to buy these outright anymore.

They usually have the option to upgrade after half is paid for $5 extra/month on ATT. I think that puts it pretty close to 12 months - maybe 15

I can't make heads or tails of what this option is from AT&T. It is very confusing.

It seems like it requires a trade in, but doesn't specify AT&T Next at all which is a different kind of trade in. The pricing also says before trade in, so there is no indication of what the actual price is.

It also looks like it only applies if you have an unlimited plan, which is a total outrage. There was no such stipulation when selling me my most recent AT&T Next installment, which means unless they provide an upgrade option, they're in breach of contract.

I agree, buying a phone is not so straightforward anymore. Will have to spend some time to really go through the options.

I'm guessing that if I want to stay with AT&T Next (or even upgrade at all) I'm going to have order through AT&T instead because they'll have more options.

I've never had a problem buying with AT&T Next through Apple, but it looks like AT&T is trying to push 1 very undesirable option through Apple.

I have another one to purchase on AT&T and still can't tell if this is good option to choose even without a trade in.

I have always just went through them just for the sake of having it incorporated into your bill already. I have generally upgraded every year as my price of the bill generally went unchanged with the ability to upgrade after 12 months. I am curious if ATT themselves even offer that plan or if it is finally time to get away from their financing and go through Apple.

I would consider myself a pretty savvy consumer and I even struggled with how to buy, where to buy from and the trade in process and values when attempting to use the AT&T website.

AT&T did away with the 24mo NEXT plan last year before the 11 Pro launch. If you want to be able to upgrade you have 2 options...

#1 - Upgrade once you pay half the phone off or after 6mo . 30 mo plan and cost $5 per mo. Must trade in phone or pay off before upgrade
#2 - Upgrade once the device is completely paid off or after 6mo. Also a 30 mo plan.

Right I know ATT offers the additional $5 per month with their "Next Up" program on their own site but is that offered through Apple?

I owe $256 on my XS Max. I will pay the balance in full and own it outright.

Based on the Apple site, I get $370 for the trade. If I don't pay the balance, I have to return the device to AT&T on trade, so this way I pay $256 upfront to come out ahead $114 and can purchase via Apple. I could also do the IUP for Apple Care. AT&T's options don't seem worthwhile anymore.

I just spoke with AT&T and Apple and they both said this exact same thing.

Ughh I always avoided preordering through ATT but that seems to be the only way to continue with the Next installments (paying the $5 Next Up).

You can still still do Next Up on the Apple site. It's down in the fine print on the Apple site when you click "See AT&T offers"

Pre-Ordered Iphone X on ATT website ... buy in full so i dont have to pay isntallments-- and feels good owning the phone. Use to order every 2 years but went from Iphone 6 to Iphone X and now waited 3 years and getting the 12.

Cant decide if i go with the 12 or 12 pro yet... Not that big with camera and needing it plus love the Navy blue more than pascific blue.

So does that mean that ATT Next Every Year is gone away? I remember having the same issues last year- I even prequalified with the IUP- but then we were able to choose the 24 month/w/ 12 month upgrade at pre order without having to do Next Up. I hope the do the same this year.

Last year when I got my 11 pro max, I had to go thru best buy to get the ATT next plan (24 month) upgrade at 12months! They were the only ones doing the "Next" plan. This year I have no idea if BB will keep the Next plan option, guess Ill find out when the 12 Pro MAX is ready!

Apple had that option as well last year and I’m hoping they continue it this year as well. The Best Buy site said that plan was only offered by non AT&T dealers last year.

Good thing I’m waiting for the Max so I have some time to see what is offered with preorders on Friday and make my decision then.

It may be you have to go directly through ATT if you want that option and select the extra $5 a month for the "Next Up" option to upgrade after 12 months. Will be curious come Friday the options available for the 12 Pro for those waiting for the 12 Pro Max.

I loathe paying AT&T an extra $60 over 12 months just to upgrade early. It’s such a rip off. If they ( Apple / Best Buy) don’t offer the Next Every Year I’ll probably switch to IUP.

If I'm understanding correctly, the Next Up option will be there when you get the "contract" part of the preorder. You don't have to have unlimited to use Next but I'm not sure if you have to a new unlimited plan that includes 5G if you order one of the new phones.

I wouldn't count on any of that. I'm not anticipating those options existing. There looks like 1 option: 30 month installments, activate on an unlimited plan.
