Hi, my girl's HDD (Macbook Pro Unibody 2009) is faulty and I need to investigate it as an external drive. Can I use a Sata-to-USB adapter and just plug it to my own Macbook? Please advice! Thank for any help

Yes, or if you have Firewire on your MacBook: Target Disk Mode.

Thanks!
Strangely, I could not mount the drive by using target disc mode. By using an usb/sata adapter, I could mount it in finder and simply copy the needed data. Slow but at least ut works!!!
