I have a Samsung T7 SSD that I'm using as my external hard drive. It is sitting there in plain view.

How do you attach it to the back of the Mac so its hidden from view?

Here is an expensive solution...

I just have my SSD sitting on the iMac's stand. I have a small cable so it's not in the way at all. I boot from the SSD because my internal drive is shot.

Get a small piece of Velcro and attach it to the back of the iMac stand.
Just be sure that the USB3 connecting cable is not "stressed" at either end...

Wow... I should really start making completely pointless peripheral additions for Apple hardware. A piece of velcro for less than $1 would've done the same job as that $45 "solution" to a problem that can be solved basically for free

Does it matter that the ssd drive gets quite warm? Before, when it was resting on the aluminium base of my iMac, it stayed cool. Not anymore.

it's probably hotter because the backpack is right at the iMac's exhaust fan. if it's not too hot to hold I don't see it being a big deal. +1 for the velcro solution I guess?

In that case, I'd take it OFF the back (or wherever it's currently attached), and go back to your original configuration (on the base).

Cooler is better, even if it doesn't look as good.
