attachments lost/not downloaded in iMessage 8.1

I am not sure how to go about this..I've searched the web and looked throughout the forums so I apologize if I missed the solution...

however....after 8.1...all the attachments in iMessages are now gone...and now replaced with picture holders. I would really like to have those old pictures and attachments in the detail section back! Any suggestions or is anyone else experiencing this?

That happens occasionally. Sometimes the messages don't pull through if they weren't sent with the latest OS or the sender manipulated it on their end.

If this is a new scenario, it may be a buggy install.

should i try to reinstall!? is that even possible?
