I just wanted to make a suggestion that there be a Sticky or a Guide entry in regards to Antivirus in the Mac Basics and Help forum. I have noticed every day this week at least one new thread about do you or don't you need AV.

They have all been coming from new(er) members, so I feel like this could be a good way to get them the appropriate information and cut down on the number of posts/battles about the same thing over and over again.

As the Mac community grows (and boy oh boy is it) I think we'll definitely begin to see more and more of these posts.

Just a suggestion.

Forget stickies. No noob reads stickies. Put a banner on the top of the forum. Like in words. And allow people to just say, "Go read something."

People come here to confirm that you don't need anti-virus on a Mac. We shouldn't have to confirm it 9,001* times.

*You just fell for the trap.:D

The same could be said for Firefox vs Safari vs <insert other alternative browser here> threads. They show up much too often.

There are probably quite a few things that could do with being made a sticky...

Not sure debates are candidates for stickies
Everyone still likes to have their "say"

MacBook v. MacBook Pro
Matte v. Glossy
Firefox v. Safari
ad naseum

Antivirus is a little different... but still, new people come to ask and want to be a part of the discussion. I say let them ask. I know it gets annoying sometimes, but we don't have answer every one... someone else will.

Stickies should use design elements (such as font size) that attracts attention.

Newbies when they post, the posting page should have these in huge letters that even the blind cannot ignore:

Have you searched?
(show some frequently searched topic examples)

Have you read the stickies?
(All stickies should be automatically compiled on one page).

Have you read the guides?
Link to the guides page.

You'd need the text 10 feet high and flashing in order for people to notice them. I think stickies have a SEP field* around them...

*Hitch Hikers Guide reference

Create a Mac Guide if you have information on Antivirus software and that doesn't need any mod involvement...
