Hi

I love my ATV2, I have a MacMini hidden away in a cupboard running home sharing which stores all my music, films & tv shows. Everything is indexed to the nth degree, meta, tv episode IDs etc.. but one thing still needs addressing...

Cover art - all my films and tv shows have portrait cover art, this looks great on the iPhone, iPad but the ATV sometimes crops TV Shows to squares, sometimes to rectangles. I can't figure out why. Any ideas.

Picking holes I know, but nice to workout.

600x600 appears to be the correct size for artwork for music, podcasts and tv shows. for movies 1200x800 (or 1000x667).

this is what the itunes store uses.

600x600 is in fact what iTunes uses for TV Show artwork, and originally for Movies it was 667x1000, but for some reason they have changed movie artwork size to 600x900.

I guess I'm not 100% certain, but the last several pieces of artwork I've gotten off iTunes for movies has been 600x900. Maybe YMMV?

Hmmm, that's strange, because even before on movies I bought they were 667x1000. I wonder why the discrepancy.

what discrepancy?
1200x800 is the same ratio at 1000x667.
they've obviously just increased the size of them.

i've never seen any 600x900 as you reported though.

turns out TV shows are meant to be 600x600 to fit in with the current iTunes store specs.

Now,

How do you download high-res artwork from iTunes store for your files? The right-click thing just doesn't work. Can you beat this work process?

1) Find the item in the iTunes store
2) Copy and paste the link into Safari
3) Open the 175x175 cover art in a new window
4) Manaually change the 175x175 to 600x600 - refresh
5) Copy and paste the artwork into iTunes "get info - artwork" box for entire series.

Cheers
