I have an ATV 4K connected to a Samsung N5300 2018 model (1080p), both purchased new this year.

I'm getting error message with some content:
"It looks like your HDMI cable or connection doesn't support HDCP, which is required to play this type of video..."

I purchased a brand new HDMI cable (8K 48Gbps - 1 meter) hoping it was a cable issue, but did not fix. I tried the other HDMI port on the tv, did not fix. I tried disconnecting everything, pulled out the power cables, waited 10 minutes, replugged everything back in, did not fix.

It seems to only happen with media that is marked as "4K UHD", like HBO Max "The Matrix Resurrections", "8-Bit Christmas"; Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building", "Happiest Season".

The ATV is set for video format as "1080p HDR". I couldn't find the specs for the HDMI ports on the N5300, but a review site indicated they were HDCP 2.2.

Any ideas?

It says your particular model doesn't support 4K input. Which would explain why it won't play said content.

It's not a 4K TV, but does that mean I can't use an ATV 4K with it? The ATV 4K appears to know that it's connected to an HD TV, so shouldn't the streaming apps stream HD version instead of 4K version? (just like it does with ATV HD, or with the TV's native apps)

Try with the output set to 1080 SDR. Your TV probably doesn't support HDR.
The TV does have HDR. But I'm willing try anything within reason...

... and for whatever stupid reason, changing to 1080p SDR fixes the issue (other than now I don't have HDR).

Thank you!
