It will be an airplay speaker as that functionality is already available on the Apple TV. But it will interesting to find out if you can use multiples for stereo or surround sound.
I also wonder if they will incorporate networking into it to compete with all the mesh networks.
I’ve had the same thoughts, I’d really like a couple to use as a pseudo surround sound, though I suspect it will just be stereo/louder sound.
I think it will most likely just do better stereo with 2 airpods - I think maybe the OP was talking about voice control though? To which the answer is nobody knows yet. I think HomePod may be disappointing at launch but they will add lots of features to it as time goes on, including some sort of Siri interaction for Apple TV, much like Google Home (which was pretty mediocre at launch)
