Anyone else having this issue? Brand new remote from an ATV 4K and it gives me the "20% battery left" warning every week. I charged my old ATV4 remote maybe once every 6 months so there is no way this one should be draining so fast.

My entire remote on ATV 4K is a mess. Stuttering through the home screen. Button pushes not always working. Yes, I have unpaired. Hoping for a rather larger TV OS update to address these problems.

yeah i see myself charging the control every two weeks and most of the time i dont even use it

Take it to the Apple store if you have one local.

I frequently use my AppleTV 4k and it was 100% out of the box a few weeks ago and now its 81%.

I think we will see updates to address menu stuttering. The hardware is there, the software just needs some refining.

i also see the stuttering - please search for laggy remote - but there is no real solution

I had the same issue with the battery dying quickly. Took it to the apple store and they ordered me a new remote. Charged the new remote fully to 100% yesterday and it was down to 85% after 4 hours. Unless I am very unlucky to get 2 defective remotes it could be an issue with the unit itself.

I didn't see this thread earlier but I replied to the 'Laggy remote' thread talking about my experiences.

I've needed to get my remote for the 4K replaced twice. Now after a few days with this one everything seems to be well. I did a full charge the first night and 3 days later it hasn't dropped a percentage.

When I first called Apple support a month ago they said their engineering team had enough samples at that point - so this is a problem they're working on. I'm guessing there was a large batch that went out with faulty batteries.

Definitely keep taking the remote back to exchange - these things shouldn't have to be recharged that often. good luck!!

You wouldn't be using the "Channels" app on the Apple TV would you? If so, disable the "shake to mute" feature as that was draining my remote at about the same pace. Once I turned it off I've been fine and maybe charge the remote once every few months.

I agree that my experience with the ATV4K has not been as great as the ATV4 or any other ATV I've had. Similar issues with the laggy remote, button presses not working, Siri not able to hear me, etc.

I was just searching for questions on this. My Apple 4 needed charging about once every 2 months, the Apple 4k remote nearly every other day. This can’t be normal. What are the options?

I got my remote switched after using the warranty, the new one works perfectly. The remote that was defect just held the charging for about 2-3 days and the new one works like a charm!

Out of interest, I was in the Apple Store, Covent Garden, London a few days before Christmas and firstly, their 4 ATV 4K remotes were incredibly laggy. The trackpad on each had a real delay. Also one of the remotes that I used or tried to battery was flat. So it does seem to be a problem!

I must be one of the lucky ones it seems, I’ve had my ATV4K since mid November and I’ve not charged it once yet and it’s currently on 58% and used quite often too.

I'm currently having issues with my remote. Since Christmas needs charging once-twice a week and yesterday I had to put the ATV to sleep and wake it back up because the directional pad on the remote wasn't working.

My ATV4K is 6 weeks old.

I had an issue with my direction pad not working but found by changing Chroma from 4:4:4 back to 4:2:0 the remotes been behaving as it should.
Trying 4:4:4 again and it goes back to being unresponsive.
Very weird indeed.

20% that’s a serious concern.
I checked my level a few days earlier-high 80s a few months since purchase.
Though I must remind myself to look for the charging cable when the time appproaches possibly upto a year or two later.

Really? I always used YCbCr 4:4:4, then yesterday I switched to RGB Low. I had the feeling that the remote became a bit less "dumb". I mean, it usually does the job in 4:4:4 but for example it loses often the skip backward in Infuse. In RGB Low it seems a bit more reliable. Still not very ideal.

Just out of curiosity have you tried the RGB modes?

Yeah I tried them to see if there was a difference to the PQ but wasn’t really sure, my tv is only SDR so just reverted back to what it was before.
I never thought of trying them to see how the remote responds though and only found changing the Chroma made a difference by accident, but why would the remote respond differently anyway?

I have no idea. Actually I am not sure it did really make a difference to me. It was more like a feeling, then I thought that I had changed it to RGB Low. Maybe I should try to switch it to 4:2:0 and see if it makes any difference (i never used that, I went straight to the top values, so I wouldn't know).

PS: hmm... no. I did a quick check changing between various YCbCr/RGB modes, and it seems about the same to me. Mostly reliable in all cases, anyway. I dunno, it changes by the day. Not that I ever had huge problems anyway.
