Apple TV 4th gen just stopped working, no video display at all, just contestant flashing white LED.

Tried power cycling a few times, always the same.

Apple support online suggested to do a restore. Tried with 2 different Mac’s and numerous different USB-C cables and wouldn’t show up in Finder on MacOS.

Took to Apple store, they tried connecting up (after reading same article as me!) and wouldn’t work, didn’t offer any more help.

So I’m stuck, is it totally bust? No way to reset it? I’m surprised Apple didn’t have another way somehow to reset it.

Anyone suggest anything?
Thanks

Just to make sure: you are using MacOS Catalina, right? For older versions you need iTunes.

If that doesn't work there is nothing else you can do. It's weird that the Apple store did not offer a repair though.

Yeh both Mac’s are on latest MacOS, Catalina so it’s Finder now not iTunes.

Apple store literally read off the web on their iPad and plugged in to see. It’s out of warranty so they couldn’t do anything.

I just thought they may have had another way to do something, like iPhone in past they have done some stuff which normal customers couldn’t. Was pretty disappointed with them this time have to say.

This happened to me about a year ago with a 4k. I called Apple and they started a ticket I guess and sent me to the Apple store. Guy at the store took it in back for about 10 minutes and came out with a new one, or refurbished I suppose. Mine was also out of warranty. So maybe try again and call Apple first to see if that makes a difference.

How far out of warranty? Mine is 2 1/2yr old now they said. Nothing can do.

They didn’t try hard, suppose low cost item really, just tried 1 Mac and 2 cables.

I haven't messed much with the 4, but with the old 2/3 sometimes it only wanted the USB cable, sometimes it also wanted a power cable attached.

you might try with or without the power cable, whichever you didn't do before.

might not help anything, but shouldn't hurt.

Mine would have been about a year out of warranty. I was actually quite surprised that they replaced it. I had looked online to see what the problem might be and after seeing what people said I was prepared to have to buy a new one. Calling Apple and taking it to the store was kind of a "Well it can't hurt" kind of situation.
