As much as I admire the capabilities of my ATV, I have had one enduring problem with it since purchase which I have never been able to resolve and have had to just put up with. I have tried on forums (not this one admittedly) but not had any luck. Last throw of the dice. Let me do my best to explain.
I have 2 iTunes Libraries, a music one stored on my MacBook and a Tv & Film one on an external drive, this is the one I use on my ATV.
I can connect to this library and can stream the entire contents quite happily. The problem arises when I try to sync to the 40gb hard drive. I set it that and it wants to Auto Sync recent content straight away. It appears to be dumping stuff onto the drive quite happily but I want to custom sync what goes on there, as you do with your music.
I set up a selection of movies and TV shows to sync, the change in settings I have made means the main SYNC button is active, I click on that and get a message 'Syncing Apple TV' along with the symbol. This flashes for 5 seconds then stops with nothing having come across.
I have tried all combinations of everything I can think of, restores, you name it and I can only ever get this behaviour. As I said, I can work round it at home by just streaming but when I want to take the box to a friend's then having the hard drive is such an advantage. It's useless otherwise.
If anyone has any suggestions I will be most grateful.
